It was over that stupid picture of an alleged young Mormon hottie with armfuls of tatts. People were all, like, "This so wonderful, a hot young LDS girl with lots of tattoos!"

I suggested that, if the picture were genuine and not doctored, that the bishop would have a lot to say about this, and that it is condemned in the church. Now I risk having this niece un-friend me because I was critical of the church (used "condemn" in a sentence regarding Mormonism).

You think that picture is even genuine? Even a moderately savvy person could easily have slipped that BoM into the picture.

She sounds like a very sincere person. I hope she gets treated decently in Utah--the incident she mentions in her post does not bode well.

I've only known one TBM woman with visible tattoos. She was smart, funny, energetic and totally committed to the gospel. She would have been an awesome YW leader, but Bishop Pigpen wouldn't give her a calling solely because of her tattoos. Sister Bishop Pigpen started rumours about her and got other women to gang up on her. She ended up going inactive, and the church lost yet another good person.

So then it's like when they started getting black people. Oh, look! A black Mormon! We ARE mainstream now!

You should post this link from the church's own website in the topic of tatoos:

"Latter-day prophets strongly discourage the tattooing of the body. Those who disregard this counsel show a lack of respect for themselves and for God. The Apostle Paul taught of the significance of our bodies and the danger of purposefully defiling them: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1 Corinthians 3:16–17).
Additional Information

Those who have a tattoo wear a constant reminder of a mistake they have made. They might consider having it removed." http://www.lds.org/topics/tattooing?lang=eng

You should post another reply saying,"I think tats are cool and certainly have nothing against this girl's tats, but the church "strongly discourage(s)" tattoos."

RfM will destroy her testy monkey in about half a minute.

Bring her on; with all her tats....

The more ink, the merrier....

They only accept her because she got the tats when "she didn't know better". Before she explained that, they were all judgmental on her ass. Nobody should have to justify clothing, tats, piercings, hairstyle, or anything else. People should shut their dang mouths and stop pursing their lips when someone dressed in something other than a calico dress walks into a room.

All Mormons should be embarrassed that they belong to an organization that has to chastise itself for being judgemental by taking advantage of a young lady like this one. There are countless other different looking Mormons but unfortunately they aren't cute enough to trot around.
