“The narrative proceeds in characteristic disregard of conditions necessary to its reasonableness, as if it were a tale told by a child, with utter disregard for consistency." (Studies of the Book of Mormon, p. 251).

Love it.

I am of the impression that the suppression of B. H. Roberts writings by the Mormon church leaders is prime evidence of institutional evil. They know that what they teach is in direct conflict to the history, doctrines, and teachings of the Church founded by Joseph Smith and built up by Brigham Young and that that church had no viability outside of Utah and within the governance of the United States of America.

Unfortunately B. H. Roberts was effective in asking the right question and held the intellectual integrity and access to ask that question. Thus suppression. These issues really do provide key evidence in the case against Mormon leadership post WWII. This is when Mormonism shifted from cult, to mainstreamed fraud cult. "I'm not sure we ever taught that"

If you can find them, read The Comprehensive History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprehensive_History_of_the_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints

I have quoted from that record re: Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith is a Psychic –

Comprehensive History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1:88-89;

“The fact was that Joseph Smith was not the only psychic in the vicinity of Palmyra.

Men will say in scoffing explanation and in fancied refutation of the things here to be stated that the early decades of the 19th century were noted as a period of great superstition, and western New York was a locality where ignorance prevailed.”

This was a point of no return in my Exit Process from Mormonism.

The Magic World View of Superstition was alive and well, and it was the clear and honest beginning of the LDS Church.

OH? I had no idea. Thanks so much for that info.

I am passionate about getting into the history as it was recorded, either at the time, or how it was published later.
It makes such a difference in understanding what happened and why.

Remember that the CH is not a contemporary history, but rather a "faithful" summary produced by the editing of B.H. Roberts, who was assistant church historian. He died in 1933.

I hadn't heard that particular quote before. It was apparent that BH Roberts lost all belief, so it's not surprising that he would say this.

I posted the reference to Joseph Smith as a psychic with references...to BH Roberts.
