Another thread inspired me to spend 5 minutes perusing the church's new 'Mormons & gays' website. Here's a few direct quotes with my responses:

"No one fully knows the root causes of same-sex attraction." - what this means is that TSCC has no idea and they've been completely blindsided by the whole issue. Plus would a statement saying that 'no one knows the root cause of heterosexual attraction' make sense? This whole statement is just nonsense.

"We simply don’t have all the answers" - Correct. TSCC never does, despite having 15 men who claim to have a direct line to God. Consistently they are shown to know far, far less than everyone else.

"Attraction to those of the same sex, however, should not be viewed as a disease or illness." - So why treat it as such? Why can't gay men serve in primary or youth? Might they 'infect' these vulnerable young people?

"Unlike in times past, the Church does not necessarily advise those with same-sex attraction to marry those of the opposite sex." - so basically previous leaders were completely wrong. How many times have we heard this? What's to say the supposedly inspired words of today's prophets won't be similarly dispelled and conveniently forgotten (white-washed) in the future?

"believing in a just and merciful God gives us hope that all will work out in the end." - it's the old 'God will sort it out later' response. Just trust us now, be celibate, pay us 10% and we promise you that in the future when you're dead......

"We believe that with an eternal perspective, a person’s attraction to the same sex can be addressed and borne as a mortal test." - what, like a disease or physical handicap? Aren't most gays more than happy to be gay? I suspect it's the majority of celibate gay TBMs that view their intrinsic nature as a test....and it's only because a bunch of old people have told them this.

"It should not be viewed as a permanent condition." - wow, that must be some relief to be told that an intrinsic part of you is only temporary. How would the 15 like to be told that their heterosexual inclination is only temporary and that in the next life they'll be paired off together? (Yes, secretly Packer would probably be delighted).

"Though some people, including those resisting same-sex attraction, may not have the opportunity to marry a person of the opposite sex in this life, a just God will provide them with ample opportunity to do so in the next." - Ain't that so nice of God to do this! He must be running some huge celestial dating agency.

"We can all live life in the full context of who we are, which is much broader than sexual attraction." - So it's just as simple as that then - no sex for the rest of your life. Any gay people care to agree that this is living their life in the full context of who they are?
