Most people have no idea how much of our society is built on his inventions.

Edison gets the credit, however, his apprentice Tesla was the real brains.

I read a book about him from the public library and once tried to build a tesla coil. it didn't work. He's always been one of my heroes.

I was telling my daughter the other night that if Tesla hadn't pushed AC through that we would likely have run out of copper on the earth by now. I don't know if that's factually correct. But I know the transmission lines for a DC power grid would have to be huge in diameter compared to what is used now.

I think there's a video about him on Netflix.

If you haven't seen it, googtube 'epic rap battles', tesla v. Edison - really funny.

Edison did some amazing things also, but nowadays they are powered or charged by plugging into AC :)

Edison does not deserve all the accolades that he gets, the accolades that should go to Tesla, even though Edison was pretty innovative in many ways.

Edison did some pretty vile things but you have to remember that Edison was working for J.P. Morgan who was one of the most vile men ever, I am talking on par with Joe Smith and Brigham Young.

More of a prophet, certainly in a visionary sense and in a sense of benefiting mankind, than any of the (scumbag) MORmON prophets/ PRofits. I wish I had video for MORmON Joe Fielding SMith's totally bungled man will never land on the moon MORmON prophecy. WHAT A BUFFOON!

But remember pervert Joe Smith said that the essence of true prophecy is a testimony of Jesus Christ. And The MORmON prophets don't score very well in that regard either.

the government confiscated all of his data after his death. Some even believe that he was quietly bumped off in order to steal it, and that much of the technology has been held back from the general public, and only released a little at a time.

Tesla is my hero.

Tesla coil
AC
And he was working on wireless electricity, IIRC.

And now an electric car - I rode in one a year ago. Pretty cool.

Wireless long distance transmission of high voltage would pretty much end the worlds energy problems.

It is my understanding that Tesla built one that could send high voltage all the way across the Atlantic.

It was also my understanding that this project was abandoned because it could also be used as a death ray that could vaporize cities if weaponized.

Some Tesla love, comedy style!

I love Tesla! If he was alive, I would change his mind about celibacy.

I have a Tesla coil that I built, and it works quite well. It's a dangerous little gadget, but lots of fun. His big contribution was alternating current. It can be stepped up in voltage easily for transmission and down again for use.

Some of his ideas are not practical yet, like transmitting power through the air. He also claimed later in life to be developing a death-ray.

The odd thing is that now they are going to high voltage DC for transmission because it's less lossy and because converting it back to lower voltage AC is now practical.

My coil

Like Tesla but dumber, I often operate in Geek Space.

Prophet but not profit. That seems to sum up Tesla.

Sad he never got the recognition he deserved during his life time. Good song about him by the Handsome Family.

The most popular rock band from Sacramento named themselves after him. He was truly a great inventor and practical scientist. Yes, he did see the future through imagination and speculation, the only way it can be seen.

Watching Netflix movie about his life now. Fascinating stuff. Edison really dicked him around.

Here are 8 things you didn't know about Tesla, including his vision of our modern day smartphone technology.

Also viewed the horrendous killing of the elephant by Edison on the internet - Edison did it to prove that Tesla's invention of AC current was "dangerous". My husband and I were horrified. I had no idea that Edison was such a vicious egomaniac.

I laugh every time I think about Tesla accidently blowing up the Colorado Springs power plant.
