"How are you doing in the Church" How do you answer?

I was asked this today by a guy who works at Desert Books. I know him and his family well and he is a pretty good guy. So when he asked me 'How are you Doing in The Church" I answered "I am doing fine." And the conversation went on from there. By "I am doing fine" I meant I no longer believe or practice it, and I have resigned my membership and feel that it was the right thing to do and best for me. By answering that way I figured it was the most honest answer I could give, that would not creat discomfort for either of us. How would any of you have answered that question?
