I am looking at a can of Great Value (Walmart Brand) Olive Oil No Stick Cooking Oil. The very first ingredient is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. So I am wondering if someone were to give a blessing and used a blessed can of spray on olive oil instead of bottled oil, would it work just as well as using a drop of bottled olive oil? Do you think god would be ok with using modern technology to dispense the olive oil or does the olive oil have to be poured from a silver tube on someone's key chain?

Which method do you think needs to be used so god will accept a blessing to the sick and needy?

Haha!

There's a very good Salamander Society bit about this... trying to find it. :-)

(Or I dreamt it.)

Great idea! You could get an olive oil sprayer. That's a pump with an aerosol spray that's great for salads and things. Open it up, pour in the oil, consecrate it, close and pump it up, and anoint!

For mass annointings, like Sun Myung Moon with his mass weddings. Or better, the way we recruits got mass innoculations (with pneumatic-gun syringes, really!) in Parris Island.

I wonder if motor oil swiped off the car disptick ( not the driver) would work in a pinch.

Of course it would be real motor oil not that new synthetic long life shit

The only problem is you have to consecrate the oil before using it. To do this you have to hold an open bottle, then use your priesthood magic. The church instructions are very clear, the bottle must be open, which apparently means magical priesthood powers can not penetrate a sealed container.

Wait...About a decade ago I witnessed a box full of closed vials of oil being consecrated. A very progressive EQ presidency did this in a joint third-hour lesson about the priesthood. They wanted to de-mystify things like how oil gets consecrated. It was actually a really good lesson...but I digress...since the little vials weren't open, does this mean that non-consecrated oil was then handed out to every head-of-household in that ward?!?!?!?

Yes. It is screw ups like that which are why God's magic doesn't work so many times.

Maybe why no one gets healed on their death beds anymore

The sprayer comes off. Bless it, put it back on. Plenty good enough. The same results will be obtained.

And remember, virgin Pam Spray is not good enough. Extra virgin Pam Spray is not good enough. It must be Extra Extra Virgin Pam Spray. Otherwise, the blessing just won't work.

What if the person has a full recovery and the bottle was blessed in error with the lid on? complicated process...

That would be interesting to see how that would be explained.
I always wondered why PH holders whom I knew to be "unworthy" seemed to have successes, while very devout believing men had none. I felt bad for them because they were taught that it would work, but then it didn't, and they'd blame themselves. Meanwhile, adulterous SP was handing out blessings that got results. (Never mind the wonders of modern medicine.)

It has to also do with the faith of the receiver.
Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who is this virgin Pam you speak of and why is she so ugly?

My BYU freshman roommate would get a sack lunch from the cafeteria and bring back to our room to study. When he would eat it, he would open the top of the lunchsack before praying over it.

I asked him, "Do the blessings not penetrate the paper sack? They can make it through the concrete ceiling, but not the paper sack? What about unwrapping the sandwich first?"

He was not amused.

Is it a requirement for the olive oil to be "virgin"??

Haha thanks jiminycricket.
To answer the question though, the olive oil must be extra-virgin

I only use the finest snake oil, after consecrating it of course.

There's a great story told by a Christian stand-up comedian:

A couple begged their minister to come over and give them a blessing because they were unable to conceive. He didn't do that sort of thing often, and only remembered after he got there that he should anoint the couple with oil. He went back to his car, and all he could find was a can of 3-in-1 oil. So he used that.

Nine months later the woman gave birth to triplets. The minister then confessed to the couple that it had not been "holy oil," but just ordinary 3-in-1.

The husband said, "Thank the Lord that you didn't use WD-40!"

Much of the olive oil on the market is counterfiet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_oil_regulation_and_adulteration

NO WAY that stuff can work priesthood magic!

Come to think of it, what could be wrong in using a fraud oil in a fraud ritual? Double negatives...

Double negative makes it a true ordinance!
