That is just a funny thought that popped in my head today.

If Martin Luther acted like Joseph Smith, he could have been pope.

Maybe in a few hundred more years, if the church stops taking about JS, no one will care what his actions where.

Missionaries are told in the MTC to teach that EVERYTHING rests upon the First Vision. Things must change quite a bit before they shut up about Joseph. Remember, he DID claim to be more important than Jesus.

Yup. That's why I have NO respect for him!

Luther was one twisted dude. His attitude towards Jews, women, Catholics, etc., was almost brutal. He had a big impact on history and paved the way, unintentionally, for the eventual emergence of societies that allowed religious pluralism and even secular humanism.

But people who praise him as a saint are really praising the results of his admittedly courageous life rather than his personal beliefs and behavior. It was a dark time and Luther was a product of his age.

I never said he was a saint.

Calm down with the political correctness. My OP was supposed to be a joke at JD's expense.

I'm just talking about the arc of history, which he clearly had an effect on.

I never said the dude was perfect.

I wasn't criticizing you. Like dk, I thought you were comparing Luther to Joseph Smith. I didn't see anything in your OP that expressed a view either way on Luther.

So I was actually replying to dk, Dave the Atheist and Doxi, who did express opinions. I have read and thought a lot about Luther and think him a fascinating and disturbing man.

That's all. No judgment on your OP.
