Interesting little town of Galena may be the new home for my DD and her family.
And I'm wondering what they can expect there.

It's isolated with no roads in and out just boats and planes.
I'm wondering if this could be a good 2 year experience for them. It's not a mission. It's a new job.

SeveraL hundred miles to the nearest ward in Fairbanks.
I have friends who live in AK, on a sound. You have to plan ahead to get supplies and stuff with no roads going in or out.

What can they expect? Man, how about hell on earth. No roads, have to boat stuff in when the river's running, place went dead after Galena AFB was closed in 2008. Unless they plan on being hunting guides, I have no clue why anyone would want to live there year round.

Just sayin'...

do they have kids? bush alaska can be really tough on kids - and i'm not just talking about the ice cream:

fitting in when you're not somehow related to everybody in the village can be tricky - especially when everyone knows it's almost a certainty that you are counting days until your contract is up...

on the positive side... for thick skinned adults gigs like that can be a quick way to make a lot of money - mostly because there's literally nothing to spend paychecks checks on (some villages don't even have alcohol!)
