I happened to see at a theme park today a van from some church. I thought that was cool, thinking here's a group of people from a church enjoying a day together.

And that's when I had one of my blinding flashes of the obvious as I reflected on TSCC's policy, unlike most every other church I see, of prohibiting local units from owning or operating vehicles.

Duh.

Push onto the members the entire expense of buying, maintaining, refueling, and insuring vehicles. Why should the church help with that?

Makes even clearer the need for that consecration oath in the temple.

Not to mention that one of the 47% takers in the congregation would occasionally want to borrow it for things like traveling for medical care.

Cannot have that, just send us more golden recruits.

Compare churches that want to help people get to services and activities vs. ChurchCo that says, "Go to all your meetings, but getting there is your problem."

Oh, LDS Inc. has vans too! They will pick you up at the SLC airport for free. A person simply has to express an interest in going on a tour of lovely LDS Inc. temple square.

don't you feel better now !
