It has been proposed that we should call temple square "Mecca." All those in favor please make it manifest. Any opposed by the same sign.
This always bugged me. I always wondered what would happen if the majority of the ward said voted no. Would that mean that the stake president or bishop were "uninspired." Why would it matter if we voted in church anyway? The church is so totalitarian that the leaders would put in whoever they wanted. So glad i'm out of that damn cult.
But seriously I drove by Mecca tonight and I thought Mecca would be a good name for Mecca and that we should start calling it Mecca.
I've always thought it should be called a Compound. Isn't that what politicians and news media call such places where cults gather and meet (and conduct secret ceremonies)?
About the sustaining thing. We covenant to sustain...so...like, we couldn't get in the temple if we didn't blindly lift our hands. It's, like, a show of obedience and humility...and, like, using less than half our brains. Like, we should all just do whatever they say and be grateful we even have the opportunity to raise our hands.
And yes Mizterzelph. You have to pray to the east. But while doing it you have to lift your arms in the air and slowly lower them saying, "Joseph Smith, F@ck You!" Repeated 3 times.
Lol, it is so automatic to sustain that a bishop could ask his ward to sustain the Hamburgler as prophet, seer and revelator and he'd get a unanimous vote!
Mordor! Thomas Sauron Monson sits up in the Holy of Holies looking through his evil eye. Ol' boyd could be gollem. We need a stupid fat hobbit. How bout elder holland? He cold be samwise ganji. Bednar has got to be frodo, he's to much of a golden boy. Oaks is a grumpy little dwarf. Gimli would fit him for sure. And elder nelson looks like an elf. He could be legolas.
It is done this way to make the sheep believe that what is actually a nondemocratic process (chosing someone at whim) is a democratic process (where your vote actually decides who wins) so that you go along with their decision, even though they claim it was YOUR decision. How many times do church leaders use the line, "you raised your hand to the square and pledged your support, bla bla bla?" Yeah, right.
