to a class of very young children, including my own child. I just happened to be sitting in when it happened.

I was shocked. Doesn't that violate the First Amendment?

What state?

That's appalling. I would be pissed.

Since I haven't read the book it is hard to judge.Other things to take into consideration is how it was presented and what you mean by young children. Teaching religion is not forbidden in public schools, but advocating religion is.Why was the teacher reading it and how did she present it and were the kids old enough to understand her reasons.

I can't say a lot about how it was presented. I heard the title. I heard her read the first sentence. Then I stood up, called my kid, and we left the room.

I had a conversation with someone in the hallway which lead to the principal interrupting the reading and taking the book. She professed her own christianity to me but did say the book was inappropriate (apparently it had bible verses at the bottom of each page which supposedly were not being read).

I was only there by chance today. I just assumed that wouldn't be happening these days. It really makes me wonder what else is being read to kindergarden age children.

It does sound iffy.

I would ask the teacher what her purpose was in reading the book to the class, and how it fits into the curriculum. If you don't get satisfactory answers from her, take your concerns to the principal.

If the book crosses the line into Christian proselytizing, it would not be acceptable.

Agreed and I would also read the entire book.
