Nov 7, 1837 - The First Presidency ordains Isaac Morley a stake patriarch in Missouri. although the president of the Quorum of Twelve is present he is not invited to join in the ordination since apostles in the 1830s are not authorized to function in stakes or to ordain stake patriarchs.

Nov 7, 1841 - Joseph Smith preaches: "If you do not accuse each other, God will not accuse you. If you have no accuser you will enter heaven. If you will not accuse me, I will not accuse you . . ….. What many people call sin is not sin. I do many things to break down superstition, and I will break it down."
Wilford Woodruff writes in his journal of Church leaders’ decision to not make the Word of Wisdom binding on church members: "concluded that it was wisdom to deal with all such matters according to the wisdom which God gave; that a forced abstinence was not making us free, but should [put us] under bondage with a yoke upon our necks"

Nov 7, 1845 - Former Church Patriarch, William Smith, three weeks after his excommunication writes to a friend describing members of the Quorum of the Twelve as "mean enough to steel if they could get the chance eaven Christ's supper off his plate or seduce the Virgen Mary or Rob an orphan child of 25 cts and so damnable are their acts & conduct that old Judas... would be a perfect genteelman to these men....."

Nov 7, 1848 – John Taylor states his reasons for not voting in the U.S. presidential election "since this nation . . .Shed the Blood of the prophets Joseph and Hiram Smith."

Nov 7, 1877 – John Taylor writes: “I am in my own feelings, very much opposed to these promiscuous marriages for time that are being celebrated here, there and everywhere by the Bishops and others. . . .”

Nov 7, 1869 – William Clayton writes in his diary: “I support a family of near forty persons on a salary of $3,600 per annum and we live well, are well clothed and very comfortably situated . . . I have six wives whom I support in comfort and happiness and am not afraid of another one. I have three children born to me during the year, and I don't fear a dozen more."

Nov 7, 1877 - John Taylor, newly sustained president of the Quorum of the Twelve, writes to fellow apostle George Q. Cannon: "The subject of the present condition of the patriarchs has lately been considered by us. It has appeared to several of the members of the Quorum that they have noticed a spirit amongst some of the brethren ordained to this office, to degrade it to a mere means of obtaining a livelihood, and to obtain more business they had been travelling from door to door and underbidding each other in the price of blessings. This, we all considered an evil that should be remedied as soon as practicable."

Nov 7, 1885 - Quorum of Twelve excommunicates Apostle Albert Carrington "for crimes of lewd and lascivious conduct and adultery" with several women dating back to 1871. This is the first time since 1842 that a general authority is excommunicated for sexual misconduct, and its publication on Nov. 10 stuns the community.

Nov 7, 1903 – B.H.Roberts writes a letter responding to a question why the Book of Mormon quotes the King James Bible verbatim in many passages. He explains that Mormons generally believe that Joseph Smith translated the words of Isaiah, Malachi, and Christ which appear in the Book of Mormon from manuscripts other than those used by the translators of the King James Bible,-in fact, Joseph's manuscripts were written in different languages. So the question of why some passages appear to be identical to ones found in the Bible "constitutes a real difficulty, and one, too, in which we have no word from the Prophet, Joseph Smith."

Nov 7, 1911 - High point of power for Utah Socialist Party (founded in 1901). In ten years Socilaists elected state legislator, city councilmen in Salt Lake City and Cedar City, and in smaller communities such officers as mayor, councilmen, and sheriffs. Three days later Ezra Taft Benson becomes president of the LDS church. This is that last letter he ever sends Steve Benson.

How did you pull all of this together?

This one is interesting:

Nov 7, 1877 - John Taylor, newly sustained president of the Quorum of the Twelve, writes to fellow apostle George Q. Cannon: "The subject of the present condition of the patriarchs has lately been considered by us. It has appeared to several of the members of the Quorum that they have noticed a spirit amongst some of the brethren ordained to this office, to degrade it to a mere means of obtaining a livelihood, and to obtain more business they had been travelling from door to door and underbidding each other in the price of blessings. This, we all considered an evil that should be remedied as soon as practicable."

Was this really happening?

"I'll give you a blessing for $2.00."

"I'll do it for $1.75!"

"I'll do 2 for $2.50!!"
