Dual topic: One good thing and temple recommends

Can anyone think of one good thing that Mormonism preaches/practices that is unique to the religion?

I've been out for over 10 years now, and in that time I haven't been able to come up with anything that can't be gained elsewhere for less $$$.

My other question that I just thought of this morning: At what point did the temple recommend requirement come into play, and why did the members at that time sustain it?

None of the actual benefits of Mormonism are unique to Mormonism. Every last one can be found somewhere else, even through non-religious sources.

No. There are no actual benefits to being Mormon beyond what is taught in any other Christian religion.
