The early church (first church) operated on socialism, per Acts 4: Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. *There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.* Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, (a priest) a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.
(Emphasis added)
And nasty things happened to anyone who held out, like Ananias and Sapphira, according to Acts 5.

The next time you hear of tscc building an expensive mall or buying up land in the FL Panhandle or similar "investments", or get wind of anyone who was required to tithe before their family could receive assistance from the ward or even anyone who paid tithes but couldn't pay their mortgage or keep the utilities on, ask, What Would Peter Do? (WWPD) Or ask, 'why wasn't the early church system of redistribution restored, too?'
(Actually, many years ago I heard an explanation of the second question, and it was something like 'by this time, the church already was falling into apostacy.')

So there it is- socialism, or simple social justice, is a sign apostacy according to tscc.

Big difference between social justice and scam. LDS church is definitely a scam. Peter's church in all likelihood was too

Socialism is also implemented in the Book of Mormon at the end of 3 Nephi and persists into 4 Nephi where "they had all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free".

Joseph Smith did attempt to "restore" this sacred socialism. It was called the "United Order" and was abandoned a few years (and revelation revisions) later: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Order.

You're right about the BOM passages. But the United Order, at least as I see it, was part of the original fleecing of the saints rather than seeing to it all of them were provided for.

Agreed. Ironically, there were probably bigger long-term profits in allowing private property, since Joseph and his closest friends could use Church funds to buy up large tracts of cheap frontier land, divide it into smaller lots and then receive a revelation for the Saints to settle there where they could then purchase the lots at a huge markup.

Actually, the penalty was not for failure to give everything but to lie about it! It is the equivalent of getting zapped for lying on the TR questions. I always had to twist it a little for a TR but did give some truthful answers such as admitting being behind in tithing, not fasting, and not obeying the WoW completely. On the question of belonging to an organization which was against TSCC, I admitted belonging to the Republican Party in Connecticut and was not refused a TR. The question of agreeing that "the Prophe" was the only person who could receive revelation for the whole church, I knew the prophet was a con but, who else was there to receive such "revelations"? So I punted. The question: "Do you have a testimony of the restoration?" was really easy. I had a testimony all right - but I didn't say what it was. If I had been asked what my testimony of it was, I would have answered truthfully, as I testified to the "Love Council". it was unnecessary and a fraud, and the books of Mormon, Abraham, and Moses were outright fakes and JS was not a prophet.

This has been in the news lately. Some are calling the Pope's views Marxist.
