Well, I told you guys I'd update. Two members of the bishopric showed up at my house around 7:40pm last night. It was a horrible time to show up. I was downstairs working (I work from home), and my husband was upstairs bathing the kids. He did open the door, even though he was half dressed (lol) with only a pair of holey jeans on (no shirt or shoes). He just told them it was a bad time. They said, "Well maybe we can come by some other time", and he replied, "Sure! Except 7:30-8:30pm is the worst time because of homework and bedtime routines" (Facepalm)

They dropped off a Christmas gift (hot cocoa with chocolate covered spoons) and a card signed by three of them).

Nothing significant has happened in the two weeks I've been absent from church, except this and my friend dropped off a gift for me. I wasn't home so she just handed it to my son and left.

My neighbor did drop off a gift as well. I feel so guilty that I don't have them gifts- argh. I'll go out and get gifts just for my friends, because I would have done that anyway.

ETA: OH! I forgot to mention that when they asked where I was he replied, "Oh she's downstairs working- we run an internet business." And one of them said, "What does she do?" to which he replied, "Counseling". He always uses this reply when he doesn't know what to tell people. I'm actually a life coach, not a counselor. They then replied, "Oh! We'll have to talk about that one day."

Ughhh

"Thanks for the chocolate spoons. Please call ahead if you want to talk to me in the future. Otherwise, I'll likely have to say again that it's a bad time."

Yeah! I don't understand. They know it's a weekend, I've got all four kids on my hands, it's bedtime/bathtime in most households, I work from home, etc, etc."

Horrible time!

They are walking through the motions. It's what they do. They want to feel good about reaching out to the wayward sheep, and there you are.

I would love to hear any REAL stories of people deciding "Oh, nice spoons! I think I'll come back to the cult."

You don't owe these people any gifts in return.

Unsolicited "gifts" by people are like the neighbor's apples that fall into your yard - yours to keep without further action.
