We had a wonderful Stake Christmas Devotional last Sunday. Music was provided by every ward and branch. Very uplifting. Take away the ward choirs and their spouses and kids, and the friends of choir members, I would say the attendance was way below average for a stake event.
Having said that let me share with you the real turn off. SP concluded with some remarks and then ended his remarks, "that at Christmas time we need to share the gospel with our friends and the people we come in contact with. We need to invite them into our homes, or to come to Church with us or to have them meet the missionaries. That would be the best gift you can give."
Earlier in the day the Home Teacher came by with some goodies and talked about our stake goal that was set two weeks ago in Stake Conference. We need to hasten the work and get our friends and people we come in contact with, to know we are Mormons and invite then to do something with us that is Church related.
HT encouraged us to share the gospel. I said nothing. What I wanted to say is "religion is a private affair, and I don't want to invade their privacy" "When the FP and the 12 get up and tell us their stories of who they brought into the Church, maybe I will consider the request." "When our Stake leaders get us and share with us people who converted because of them, maybe I will consider the request."
There must be a ton of pressure coming from the top. Why?
