Seems to me that this will prevent LDS Church from marrying gay people. If you were a Bishop and the laws says you should marrying gays and the Bishop goes ahead and does it, what does that say about his beief system?

I think it will be interesting to see how the LDS backs out of this. They could say the Bishop is just working for the state but how can the Bishop honestly answer TR questions. Seems he would be going against his beliefs that the brethren are inspired and the Procalmation was inspired.

Same thing goes for gay marriages in Temples.

We live in interesting times and it will be exciting to see how God's prophets handle these situations.

The Proclamation only says that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God. Nowhere does it say that marriage between a man and a man isn't.

It's just a "proclamation". Like the first edict banning (with fingers crossed behind back) polygamy was just a "declaration".

The church will do what it needs to do when it needs to do it, and won't let little things like past statements interfere. It's a massive, money-laden corporation and does not care at all about consistency or making sense in historical context.

Thanks Kimball.

My wife sure believes in it.

If we are looking fior further light and knowledge, I think the light bulb was never lite!!!

yes, the church says to treat every syllable that comes from the prophets mouth as scripture. However, as soon as he is dead, it's all up for grabs, soon the proclamation on the family will be one or more of the following
- speaking as a man
- speculative theology
- tradition
- policy
- a product of it's time
- "oh that was never 'official' doctrine
- a speck of history
- anti-Mormon lies

Elder Richard G. Scott

“Adultery, fornication, committing homosexual acts, and other deviations approaching these in gravity are not acceptable alternate lifestyles. They are serious sins. Committing physical and sexual abuse are major sins. Such grave sins require deep repentance to be forgiven."
