The BYU honor code is abused in all sorts of ways. Also, bishops should not have the power to throw people out of BYU. The honor code promotes lying because you will only be expelled if you confess. Most violators of the honor code are not caught, because they don't confess. Those who do confess are hurt bad financially, educationally, and career wise.

It is very easy to violate the honor code because the rules are so vague, and bishops are given a such a broad interpretation.

It is heartbreaking to watch young people get kicked out of college just because of some crazy bishop, or because they naively confessed. It can ruin their lives.

You don't get fired from a job if you are having premarital sex or watching porn. College should be like a job. As long as you show up to class, do the work, get decent grades, and dress appropriately, you ought to be accepted.

My computer was not working last night, and I didn't think my message had been posted, so I posted it today, only to find out that my previous post had gone through.

At other universities, you DON'T get expelled for having non-marital sex, drinking coffee, watching porn, or wearing above-the-knee shorts.

Why would anyone want to go to BYU when they could go someplace else?

A few years ago, a friend was ejected from BYU housing, lost her financial aid, and was nearly expelled from the university because of a supposed Honor Code violation that never even happened. My friend, who was kind of pudgy, wore glasses, and was not your typical BYU Barbie, got engaged to a very hot, very charming man (also a good friend of mine). One of her roommates was very jealous and decided that she wanted Hot Man for herself, so she told the Honor Code Police that my friend had spent the night out with her fiance.

It wasn't true, and she could prove it, but the Honor Code jerks didn't care. I let her stay at my house the remaining two months before her wedding, but she had to drop out of school after they cut her scholarship.

Gotta love the Honor Code. People use it to hurt others.
