Questions --

1. Do any of the old timers know if Richard Dutcher ever participated at RfM before, during or after leaving TSCC?

2. Does anyone know what he is doing now or have recent contact with him?

3. Where can I see his NON-TSCC movies?

I'm friends with him on Facebook. He's on there all the time. Looks like he's got a new lady. Other than that, not sure.

I'd love to know the story on why his biopic of JS never was
made. Larry Miller (TBM) was supposed to be funding it. My
suspicion is that Miller pulled out of the project when he found
it wouldn't be flattering to JS.

Why wouldnt it be flattering to JS?
Is there something I don't know?
(LMAO)

Having said that, in all seriousness, the story itself would actually make for an incredible piopic

As long as ALL of it were there

Because when you look back into his formative years, you learn so much more about him and it puts so much of the LDS early history into a chronological context

Thats why I dislike Rough Stone Rolling. The author (IMO) made a deliberate decision to obfuscate the history and surrounding events to core events he does talk about

"This pretty girl lost her shoe at a ball" means much more when you know her name was Cinderalla, and details about her sisters etc

For instance, this paper about his Mother and Father
https://www.sunstonemagazine.com/pdf/064-22-29.pdf

Thought you'd read it all- maybe not. This seals the deal- shows how the personality and psychological state of the Smiths led to BOM

Its like Chapter 3 of No Man Knows My History, but on acid

If Angels in America were popular, and the BOM musical does well, this would smash it in the ratings (primarily for a US audience).

Even if you aren't LDS, stuff like this and No Man Knows, looking at it from the outside, and then overlaying the escape west, polygamy, garments, blood oaths, mountain meadows, blacks, and so on

It is actually incredible fascinating

The fact that it *is* very fascinating is only slightly dampened by the fact that we became entangled with the story almost 200 years later... ;)

Yes this was all a prologue to prepare Joseph's mind and
environment for the great work that the Lord had prepared for
him.

The Lord knew that Joseph would need the support of his family
as well as the frame of mind that would readily take up the task
that he was destined for.

Blabbity blab bla yadda yadda patootie.

It's the spirit, not the intellect yadda blah blah . . .

[Does anyone want to go into their bishop and tell him that
you've been looking for buried treasure by peering into a magic
peep-stone in a hat as a way to prepare yourself spiritually?]

I don't believe any of his post-Mormon films have been released on dvd yet, which is a real shame as I really want to see "Falling" and "Evil Angel."

I really hope Mr. Dutcher is able to make these films available to the public in the near-future, but I haven't heard about any such plans.

"Falling" is powerful. I would own it if it were out in DVD. "Evil Angel" is scary and intense. Two very different films from one of my favorite film makers. Trailers for both are on youtube.

I studied film at BYU with Richard. He was a great guy. I loved how he created an impressive career for himself in the film world. He actually DID what we all talked about in school. And best of all, he's cult-free now.
