From an expanding corporation's perspective, the property alone increases over time and so the corporation's net worth.

But good from any other point of view outside the points of view of people making pilgrimages to these places?

I don't think these properties are valuable to any but those actively going to them. Worldwide how many people are we talking about? Of 15 million members let's say 5 million are actively attending a chapel and of those let's say 2.5 million are actively attending a temple.

Looks like a handful of McDonalds serve more better faster.

Granted this isn't including "the dead" in those being served.
