Here in Utah the state legislature opened the 2014 session. Becky Lockhart is the speaker of the State House. Right out of the gate she attacked Gov. Herbert for a lack of leadership among other things.

For those of you not familiar with the Utah election system, a few points. We use a caucus system. Local schools for meetings etc. in Utah this is the system. The stake presidents decide in advance who goes where. The bishops drop the hammer. Instructing how one should vote. And on Election Day, if you have been given a calling, you are sustained.

Now we only have a 10 percent voter turn out. And the above mentioned is why. Hell we have open pedaphiles that serve in the legislature. And as long as they do the LDS church's business that's fine.

When Becky Lockhart was so open on the first day it indicates to me that the boys at corporate have decided that there needs to be a change. She's been given a new calling. Either Utah is becoming too liberal for Monson or somewhere Gov. Herbert made a comment that upset the guys at corporate.

Here is the icing on the cake. In the Mormon culture women have no real rights. They seem to be kept in place and told when to move or not move. A woman, for Gov. in Utah? The last time this happened every back deal in the room was done to see to it that Olene Walker did not get re-elected. And she is a capable educated gal who would have done (and did do) a great job.

It looks like the Mormons are trying to look less foolish here.

The governor noticed that we were giving away $600 million in medical services to poor people, and accepting the Medicaid expansion would reimburse the state $600 million for those services. He admitted that he couldn't come up with a compelling argument for continuing to have high insurance rates cover the cost. He was inclined to accept the Medicaid expansion.

This was viewed as heresy, or at least a political opportunity to out-right-wing the guv.
