I taught gospel doctrine close to a decade. One of the more challenging lessons is creation because truthfully most members don't know much about creation, or organisation evolution. But a church website, Feb 5, stated that anyone who teaches evolution will lose their testimonies. All I have to say to them is pants on fire. Even the Rock n' Roll Prophet, President Hinkley stated the church takes no formal position on Darwin. Good for him.

Mine started fading long before when I started thinking about the origin of God. I just have no beginning nor original though on that.

Do you happen to have a link to that text on TSCC site? I'd like to show it to someone...

We are seeking the spirit of Gordon Hinckley, are you there? If you will speak through me, knock thrice.

Knock
Knock
Knock

Are you Gordon Hinckley?
Yes
Are you are aware of the deep doo doo your church is in?
Yes
Do you have any advice?
The wise man packs his own parachute.
That's it?
Ain't never been any different.

This thought always puts a grin on my face- no Mormon anywhere, any time, not TSM, not Joe Jr. himself, has a say or the tiniest influence in where my immortal soul spends eternity. Zero, zilch, nada. None of them can condemn me to outer darkness or into hell, and nothing they can do gets me into heaven, even the ck.

Former Gospel Doctrine teacher here as well.

I never taught the theory of evolution in any Sunday School Class. I always stuck to the manual as closely as possible. I did, however, believe (assuming the story of Adam and Eve is true) that when it says Adam was created out of the "dust" of the earth, which could be a translation thing, where "dust" means particles or small things, or man started from small things and evolved in the "garden of eden" for millions of years before becoming (hebrew testL: אָדָם) or "Adam" which is the hebrew word for mankind or human. I never taught evolution. I simply considered it likely, but with some relevance to Biblical teachings.

My "testimony" started to weaken because I started drinking heavily and watching hardcore porn....

kidding

I had a personal experience with the chruch leadership that made be question whether they were acting as true servants of the Lord. I then started questioning the origins of the Book of Mormon. After I read Charles Anthon's account, I started to suspect that Joseph Smith was a con man who didn't want to do manual labor anymore, and basically conned Martin Harris out of his farm.

I labored under the suspicion in JS for more than a decade, going through the motions, until my wife (Lorenzo's Ho f/k/a freedom) decided that SHE didn't want to go to church anymore. It was then that I actively pursued my suspicions of JS, going back to the Anthon account, and looking at the BoA, which I always had a problem with. Boom!! Found the REAL Egyptian translations of the Facsimiles. That put the nail in the coffin of TSCC in my life.
