I agree, sex is something that is as natural and regular as birth and death. I am constantly amazed at the amount of turmoil sex seems to create for people. Part of that is that as such a strong drive its an ideal lever for people to use when they want to control others but often even people who can get past the religious manipulation still really see sex as some unbelievably complex issue akin to space flight or something.

Humans (and our close cousins the bonobo apes) are special in our year-round and constant desire for sex. We have the largest penis-to-body-size of all the great apes, we copulate for longer (average span of penis-in-vagina-or-other-orifice intercourse in humans in 7 minutes, whereas chimps and bonobos last about 7 SECONDS per encounter), and we tend to have several partners over the course of our lifespan.

Female mammals have clitorises, and most apes seem to be able to be able to have orgasms, but humans, to a large extent, have figured out how to facilitate the female orgasm's frequency and intensity through culture and experimentation.

We pair-bond, which increases - at least for a period of time, for most people - the availability of a sexual partner. But we still get excited by other attractive members of our species and enjoy watching other people having sex (this goes for women, too: several studies have been done that show a women's body will react positively to sexual imagery even if she reports feeling indifferent).

I get that we all have varying levels of sexuality; from age 11 on there's rarely been a day I haven't masturbated, even now, when I enjoy a healthy sex life with my wife, but I know of others who can refrain for years without much concern. I also have friends who can masturbate six times in a day, and they are in their thirties.

We are THE sexual creature. To deny ourselves the pleasures of sex is to deny a massively important part of our humanity (asexuals being the rare exception). To hell with any religion or authoritarian culture who seeks to deny this beautiful, wonderful part of ourselves!

I never had a problem with indulging, just with confessing and repenting. Over and over and over and over and over all the way through my teen years. Damn I tortured myself over it. How stupid. The shame of it lasted into my early 20's. Even a few years after I had decided the Mo church and all the others were junk. That brainwashing is POWERFUL.

Everyone touches themselves, probably a lot. Everyone has sex, hopefully a lot. From ants to zebras and everything in between. Wear a condom, be respectful of your partner's feelings and have a good time.
