Many people think that Atheist means the denial of god, which is, of course not the case. It seems this person is agnostic, which does not exclude that they are also atheist.
Being an atheist doesn't mean declaring that there is no god (although some do, but that's in addition to their non-belief).
However, it does mean that the evidence presented for a god is insufficient to merit a belief in god, so one doesn't believe it.
I can't say there is no god, but I can say that I don't believe in god. I'm not a theist. That makes me an atheist.
I don't see how one can say, "I believe in god, but I'm not a theist." That doesn't make sense. If you're an atheist, then you're not a theist. Simple as that.
Changing the word God to the word Creator doesn't work for me. But, to each their own, I guess.
