Honestly, not sure how to react to that article.

My sense is that she's been somewhat assimilated into the culture, and trying really hard to see the good.

Assimilate to avoid being alone. Assimilate so your kids aren't ostracized.

Yes, but were the neighbor children welcome to play at her house? She doesn't mention that. I'm glad that it worked out for her, however.
