From the weekly report to the family, from the sister half of a senior missionary couple, serving stateside in a "service" mission:

>That evening I went to the ward's Relief Society night. They had advertised it as a Back to School activity. But in reality it was Visiting Teaching training. ...

But they felt the Spirit. And how else are you going to get the sisters to come?

MLM training put to good use, or is it the other way around.

Mormonism, the gift that keeps on giving.

Wow! That sure says a lot. How pathetic.

Compare that with how it is in Nashville on a Wednesday night. That freakin' town rolls up the sidewalks in the evening because half the town goes to bible study. And they aren't dragged there kicking and screaming, they really like going.

Geez, I hated trying to set Wed. night appointments with people. It was futile.

That reminds of this story, after I had stopped attending church, I was invited to an RS activity to celebrate "the sisters' birthday". We did that every couple of months, it was pretty much just get together and cut a cake. So I went to see the ladies I hadn't seen in a while. And guess what? It was a nutrition and exercise activity. I was totally not dressed for the exercise part. It was fun but I did tell the 'sisters' that you don't invite someone for cake and sneak an unannounced zumba class before it. Not that we didn't need the exercise but at least we could have dressed for it. =)

English class = Intro to Mormonism

Message about Families = 1st Discussion

Neighborhood/Block Party = Ward Activity

Tried and true path of sneaky branding.

Chapel open day = Missionary activity

Helping hands activity = Mormon PR push

Always an ulterior motive behind the scenes.

When we volunteered as missionaries, we were always expected to wear our missionary outfit even if jeans and a t-shirt were more appropriate attire. It was about marketing, not charity.

So much for trickery being the tool of Satan.

I like the way Snowball put it: the church's "tried and true path of sneaky branding."

I have one that occurs as a "neighborhood Halloween party", which equals a ward activity where people are looking to corral and corner you. These types of things do make you feel that the church people think they are super-entitled to use these types of techniques on you the rat caught in their maze.

Well, I guess sleezy Joe did set the stage for this "play". and the same show has taken top billing ever since-----"The Mormon's Never-ending ConGame". Come one, Come all. You are all invited.

My daughter went to an easter egg hunt for an activity at the church. Sounded fun so I told her she could go. She told me afterwards that all the eggs had scriptures in them instead of candy.

Oh wow, that one's bad! Bait and switch on adults is one thing, but on little kids is another.

Oh geez, poor kids. Mormons sure have a knack for taking the fun out of just about anything.

The next time they have a party, she will know the treats are really nasty tricks.

the tried and true method at work. But of course, work paid for food to be brought in, unless it specifically said pot luck. The mormon church is just too damn cheap.
