The church that famously does not allow for divorce demands that its gay parishioners get one and denounce marriage equality.

The one phrase I would take exception to in this oped is: The Catholic Church does incalculable good, providing immeasurable comfort — material as well as spiritual — to so many.

Um, yeah, like the Crusades, the Inquisition, the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, the abuse and murder of the Indians in Spanish missions, the murder of cats by Pope Gregory that lead to the Black Death, Popes Pius XI and Pius XII colluding with Hitler and Mussolini and abetting the Holocaust, the raping of boys across the US and Canada, the abuse of Irish washer girls by nuns and priests, the corruption in Quebec schools that led to them being expelled from public education, and their continued jihad in conjunction with the Mormons against gays.

Pope Francis may be a nice change from Pope Sidious, but he still represents a church that robs from the poor to enrich themselves.

Last spring, Eastside Catholic HS Vice Principal Mark Zmuda was fired for marrying his partner.

Sister Mary Tracy, the administrator who fired him, told him he could keep his job if he got a divorce.

Zmuda is sueing, Tracy resigned, the students are pissed, and the Archbishop thinks it's just fine. (Google for more information.)

Now the Catholics are getting the same scrutiny that Mormons got over their racist doctrines. Of course, Mormons are even more homophobic than Catholics, since gays can teach and study at Notre Dame but not BYU.
