The Lamanites were tricky, disguising themselves as other civilizations. Mormons have been honestly misled. The leaders were only following their specifications. This is no time for pointing fingers. Especially that finger.

Found this article interesting. (Yes BOM and Lamanites are certainly fictional.)

These artifacts are from a real civilization mentioned in a Wikipedia article also. Wouldn't be surprised that JS counterfeited his Nephites and Lamanite stories after writings about these ancient civilizations that were written about for quite some time previous to his life.
