The P.S. in Linus's letter to the Great Pumpkin

"If you really are a fake, don't tell me. I don't want to know."

So he chooses to sit in the pumpkin patch the entire cold night, (having convinced Charlie Brown's younger sister Sally to stay with him), and they miss out on the night's festivities. Of course, no Great Pumpkin shows up.

Maybe, one year, he'll find that most sincere pumpkin patch.

Or maybe not.

The supreme squash will save Linus for believing in it. And it will save Sally for believing in Linus. The two will become god and goddess of the patch, which will be restored to its paradisiacal glory. Then Linus will add the little redhead girl and Peppermint Patty and her life partner with the glasses who calls her sir as plural wives.
