I'll call fake. The earth would have opened up in Utah if this were true.

It's satire.

Obviously fake. Uchtdorf said he was joining Scientology at the end of the article.

Totally bogus article. The tone is satiric and overly comedic, and for me, that's an easy "tell". It reads a lot like The Onion, and Newslo where the article appeared is known for its satire on many subjects.

Plus, look at the author bio and his previous articles, which says a lot about the type of thing he usually writes:

http://www.newslo.com/author/david-neilsen/

But LOL! Look at what some LDS church members said in comments, jumping to the immediate defense of the church and Monson. They assumed it was real and felt the need to bare testimony that their church and its leaders were true, even if the lies and mistakes mentioned in the article were, too.

The older I get the more I laugh at Mormon defensiveness. It takes a lot of work to shore up a lie. Look at 'em go!

According to the website that posted it:

"Newslo is the first hybrid News/Satire platform on the web. Readers come to us for a unique brand of entertainment and information that is enhanced by features like our fact-button, which allows readers to find what is fact and what is satire."

That fact button is a blue button at the top of the article that you can push to highlight just the facts of the article. That's an interesting touch. The part about scientolgy, of course, did not highlight.
