OK, that's not really that much of a headline, since it's now
ancient history. But let me recap a bit:

President Bill Clinton was accused of having had sexual
relations with Monica Lewinsky. Clinton denied it adamantly.
However it turned out that Monica Lewinsky had kept a blue
dress on which there was a semen stain. Prosecutors subpoenaed
the blue dress and found that the DNA sample matched Bill
Clinton.

THEN, and only then, did Bill Clinton go on TV and admit that,
yes, he had fooled around with Monica Lewinsky. Of course he
did it in a carefully worded statement that had been carefully
worked over by his spin doctors.

Isn't this what's happening with the essays? Isn't the Church
in a position where it has been forced to admit the truth? As
GA Steven Snow has stated:

“My view is that being open about our history solves a whole
lot more problems than it creates. We might not have all the
answers, but if we are open (and we now have pretty remarkable
transparency), then I think in the long run that will serve us
well. I think in the past there was a tendency to keep a lot of
the records closed or at least not give access to information.
But the world has changed in the last generation—with the
access to information on the Internet, we can’t continue that
pattern; I think we need to continue to be more open.”

Notice that the REASON Elder Snow gives for the new openness is
that the strategy of hiding the truth and being dishonest no
longer works with the advent of the internet. Notice that the
reason given for openness and honesty is not that its the right
thing to do, but that the Church has been driven to this by the
internet. And notice that the "essays" have been carefully
worded and worked over by mopologetic spin doctors.

The Church is Bill Clinton at his worst.

And doesn't the essay basically admit that Bill Clinton did the
same thing that Joseph Smith did--publicly lie about sexual
relations that he had committed.

Bill Clinton did not spend a lot of effort and a lot of others peoples money to ram his moral ethics into others.

I think this discussion will be of great importance to people that were strong armed by LDS Inc into donating into the LDS Political meddling machine against Prop 8.

Clinton's error was answering the question at all (dishonestly, disingenuously, call it what you will).
What he should have said as reply was, "It's none of your damn business. My private life and who I do or don't get BJs from is private."

His dishonest/disingenuous answer is what gave fodder to his political enemies to go after him. Not the BJ.

Other than the attempt to hide being a horn-dog, though, I don't see much else analogous to JS.

Clinton should of said the POTUS is a stressful job. A good BJ calms the nerves and Hillary never was very good at it.

Other than that, what's it to you American people where I decide to put by schlong. Mind your own damn business.

...with Lewinsky during a deposition given in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Clinton had denied sexually assaulting Jones, so the lawyers used the Lewinsky info to bolster their case that Clinton preyed on female subordinates.

Clinton lied about Jones and Lewinsky for the same reason Joseph Smith lied about his side women: because he knew it would hurt him or destroy him if he didn't deny it.

I agree with your assessement of the Clinton / TSCC comparison.


Because so many other mormon historians know the truth and and published they can no longer ignore the issue. TSCC is looking forward to the next LDS generation to know these issues yet still find the social club appealing and continue worship services as it has bene normal for these BIC. Growth will be slow and may only be internal BIC growth with few converts sticking around after a year.
