What I got out of the article was that the LDS members involved (beginning with the governor) were trying to build bridges, and were also trying to not offend any tender sensibilities.
I think they did fine...this has got to be a "different" experience for most of the LDS members who were there.
I (personally) wish it weren't Chabadniks involved center stage because Chabad is a Jewish cult (and it's just too easy for non-Jews to think that "all Jews must be 'like this' ")...but, all-in-all, it seemed like a successful Hanukkah lighting.
