There is no way to know Mormon history and not know Smith lied.

If you believe in Mormon polygamy Smith was a liar.

If you believe he wasn't a polygamist he wasn't a liar.

But...

If you believe in one version of The First Vision he was a liar.

If you believe he changed his story from faulty memory he wasn't a liar.

But...

If you believe Joseph Smith translated an ancient text directly from God the fact that fundamental edits to it were made makes him a liar.

If you believe in The Original Book of Mormon Joseph Smith wasn't a liar.

But...

If you believe Joseph Smith had the original Solomon's Temple rituals revealed to him the fact that there is nothing supporting it and that fundamental changes have been made to it makes him a liar.

If you believe Joseph Smith didn't have the original Solomon's Temple rituals revealed he is a liar.

"Smith explained that the Masons had corrupted the ancient (God-given) ritual by changing it and removing parts of it, and that he was restoring it to its "pure" and "original" (and complete) form, as revealed to him by God. In the years since, the LDS church has made many fundamental changes in the "pure and original" ritual as "restored" by Smith, mostly by removing major parts of it."

Any way a TBM slices or dices it their founding prophet is a liar.

They don't have to be perfect. But isn't speaking the truth kinda a requirement?

Speaking the truth consistently especially when claimed it comes directly from the mouth of god IS a requirement. If it was any other church claiming that it is the one and only true church on earth I would hold it to the same standard. The lies, the whitewashing, the omissions damn the church on every level.

And one would think that God would set up an amendment process for His most holy of book. It wouldn't need have been edited like 4,000 times.

The U.S. Constitution was set up that way and it supposed to be inspired according to Joseph Smith.

With all of the programs and processes and "economy of The Lord" The Lord's Organization on the earth is pathetic in the lack of oversight for people with special witness sight who are acknowledged by their followers as prophets, SEERS, and revelators.

The proof is in the lying and changing without a God revealed process.

So much lying to cover up how uninspired LDS Inc. is and was.

I think there are some serious questions with the timeline on polygamy. Why does the Fanny Alger celestial marriage occur before the appearance of Elijah? Why do more of the celestial marriages occur before the endowment? If JS is receiving direct revelation concerning temple ceremonies, why does he join the Masons before he introduces the endowment?

But the big question for me is why would God choose such an imperfect man to be the prophet of the final dispensation of time? The big guy is supposed to know the end from the beginning, so he must have known that JS was going to be a liar, philanderer, fair weather friend, despot and egotistical jerk. Was he really the best man for the job?

Excellent questions. Was Smith practicing to practice Celestial Marriage before he really committed himself to it?

Wouldn't many Mormon men like that kind of practicing.

D&C 50:17-18
17 Verily I say unto you, he that is ordained of me and sent forth to preach the word of truth by the Comforter, in the Spirit of truth, doth he preach it by the Spirit of truth or some other way?
18 And if it be by some other way it is not of God.

D&C 93:24-26
24 And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;
25 And whatsoever is more or less than this is the spirit of that wicked one who was a liar from the beginning.
26 The spirit of truth is of God…

D&C 63:17
17 Wherefore, I, the Lord, have said that the fearful, and the unbelieving, and all liars, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie, and the whoremonger, and the sorcerer, shall have their part in that lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

D&C 129:7
7 ...it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to deceive;...

2 Nephi 9:34
34 Wo unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.

2 Nephi 28:8-11
And there shall also be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry; nevertheless, fear God--he will justify in committing a little sin; yea, lie a little ...; there is no harm in this; and do all these things, for tomorrow we die; and if it so be that we are guilty, God will beat us with a few stripes, and at last we shall be saved in the kingdom of God.
9 Yea, and there shall be many which shall teach after this manner, false and vain and foolish doctrines, and shall be puffed up in their hearts, and shall seek deep to hide their counsels from the Lord; and their works shall be in the dark. ...
11 Yea, they have all gone out of the way; they have become corrupted.

Jeremiah 48:10
Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully...
