I've theorized that TSM (or his handlers) decided not to 'let him out' as a sort of compensation blow-back reaction to how outspoken GBH was, and how he (GBH) / his outspokenness backfired.

Does this ring true with anyone?

Are any of our posters closer to the inside than regular rank-and-file?

GBH, raised in the PR milieu, must have thought he was 'God's Gift' to the MoImage...Turns Out, "Not So Much".

What other possible explanations are there?

Dementia/early onset alzheimer's.

Before this developed, it was laziness.

He's already dead on the inside. All we can do is for the body to catch up. And now we wait.

Personally, I feel he'll be deep in the cold cold ground by March. But this whole dementia/on his deathbed saga has been going in for years.

Meh.

Would you let out a 'leader' who does not testify of Joseph and the Book of Mormon?

When was the last time tubbie tommie testified this stuff is true? About a decade now...

After all those years watching Gordon spin his PR webs and then being forced to replace him? Heck, I'd have nothing to say to the world either. Just tell nice stories about being a good person and wait for the end.

Monson only seems silent compared to dunderhead blabber mouth self promoted PR genius Gordon BS Hinckley. I know that a lot of people do not like Monson, and that is their right. However, If a person watches the official LDS Inc video biographies of both men and then compares them, some very large differences between the two men can be observed.

You're assuming he has anything to say. TSM is an organization man, not a thinker.

Monson is so boring that he only has something to say every six months.

He does?

What has he ever said that hasn't been said before, many times over?

Perhaps he has forgotten how to talk.

He's silent because he has to be. Not only that, he has nothing to say that makes any sense.

Imagine what it must be like to try and manage the king who has checked out. How does one do that?

The best tactic is to let him out in public as little as possible. Then, control every move and word that he says. Keep the people around him talking constantly so nobody notices his silence. Keep his daughter on his arm at all times to rein him in.

And that's how it's been done over and over and over. Tommy is no exception.

My mother used to tell me:

"Better for you to stay silent and let them think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

He IS speaking out on the critical issues of the day.

Just last week in his monthly press conference he said, "the
passive voice must be used."

Channeling Marcel Marceau, perhaps?

He could just be bored. He's been doing this top-level church stuff since he was 36. It's hard to imagine doing any job for that long--let alone this one. Could you imagine giving those talks about widows, choosing the right as a boy, and tiny Tim for decades?

He's never been much of a substantive person, or interested in controversy. So, maybe he has neither the disposition or energy for taking on the ambitious vision (however misguided) that GBH laid out for LDS, Inc., which was coming apart at the seams anyway.
