We only care about that scripture that says you can't "kill" a microscopic embryo. Don't ask me for chapter and verse but I know it's in there somewhere.
-an unbelieving husband is sanctified by his (believing) wife
-if a woman leaves her husband, she should be reconciled to her husband -or- remain unmarried
ALL OF WHICH LDS, Inc 'conveniently' ignores.
I think that the LDS accepted divorce (IRL) because of Polyg. During Polyg, I'm guessing that some or many of the wives felt short-changed, became despondent/depressed, which was a blot on (prominent) husbands reputation in the community; so, the decision-makers (PH males) decided to allow them rather than keep an unhappy woman in his home.
It's been posted that BY charged couples ($10 ?) for granting a divorce.
In a practical matter, the scriptures don't make a distinction between the initiator of a divorce and the spouse who opposes it, sought Healing (thru Repentance & Forgiving).

Mormons would say that it is translated incorrectly. But the Bible is pretty stupid sometimes, and Paul, of course, was merely speaking as a man and has been trumped by a living prophet and all that other BS.
I am given to understand that he translated it from English, which he didn't speak very well. Linguistically, it was probably a huge challenge, but he was led by revelation.
