Robert Siegel talks to Mormon leader Elder Dallin Oaks about the press conference this week where the church announced it would support LGBT anti-discrimination legislation in return for laws that protect religious freedom.

I listen to NPR every morning on my way to work - in my opinion, nothing can beat NPR news or the smooth, pleasing voices of the NPR reporters. That said, I'm glad I missed this segment, as it probably would have resulted in road rage. Oaks has a lot of nerve trying to claim that the poor church was a victim in California after the shit they pulled. Yes, Dallin, people were and are still pissed at your traveling shit show for your antics in California - but remember that your church was instrumental in the efforts to deny a group of people of rights you already have. I believe you asshats like to call that "persecution".

Well the victims of the Kirtland Anti-banking Society blamed Joseph Smith. Can't have that today. Today it is blame society for your victimizing your members and their kid's college funds.

What don't I understand the least is why they didn't reschedule the interview or have another member from the press conference the 12 had stand in (Christofferson,Holland. He sounded like a decrepit old man, which, despite his age, I know that he is not- He is defintely one of the more lively looking octanegariens in the bunch. Maybe to gain sympathy, or deliberately cut the interview short, because most stuff on NPR ususally runs longer than that. God forbit the church participate in anything that constitutes difficult journalism.

I have noticed that the length of interviews tend to be determined by the host/interviewer. If a lot of good ideas are being shared, or new information explained, the interview will go on a bit longer. If the interview is stale and not really adding anything new to what has already been said, they seem to cut it short. I think they knew that if they wanted to press him any harder, they would have to start calling him on his bullshit, making them look like bullies. Oaks wasn't offering anything new, therefore the interview was getting in the way of real news.

I mean, they handed us a "Yes on 8" sign as we left the church building, and expected us to put in our yard - come ON!!

Someone should present an aphorism to him which fits the church and himself perfectly: "Hoist by your own petard".

"Great job Dallin!"

"See I told ya NPR would be a lot easier on you than the BBC was on me."

"On radio your looks can't give you away like they did to me."

"And faking that cold was inspired. Stupid liberals will never realize you actually sound just like Sauron making a collect call to Satan."
