I'm trying to reconcile this with the LDS pre-existence story.

Did the bad guys argue that obedience should be necessary for salvation but be voluntary or did they argue that Satan could and should force us to be obedient?

If the latter...what was Jesus' argument exactly?

Both sides of the War in Heaven wanted the same thing: obedience. The point of difference was only methodology. Elohim and Jesus favored extortion.

"Satan could and should force us to be obedient" - there you go. AND you have nailed who is in charge of the CULT.

Obedience is the first law of slavery.

Obedience is for ants, and I'm an uncle.

You don't tell a firefighter, "It's YOUR job to put out the fire. I'm NOT leaving the building! This is the SUPERBOWL, fer Crissakes!"

You don't tell a cop, "No, I WON'T hang around just because I happened to see that accident. There are other witnesses, talk to THEM!"

However, I've never bought into obedience just because "somebody said so." I didn't buy it as a kid, and I don't buy it now. People on power trips start making up their own, arbitrary rules, and that's where I draw the line.

If you are not welcome in what's supposed to be God's house because you have tattoos, several earrings, or flip-flops (or wearing trousers if you are female), that's small-minded and petty.

I don't care for the implication that God is small-minded and petty.
