Teach your kids to:
1) Throw up your hands and start screaming!!
2) or stop drop and roll..., Oops that's for fires, lol
3) Turn it off like a light bulb, just goes click, it's a cool little mormon trick.

Oh, this is what developing as a human being is called now - precocious stimulation. You need to wait until you are 21 to drink and what age to think about sex and nudity?

My dad told me I'd go blind. Then he turned around and ran smack into the wall.

Not me, before I had that father son talk I paced it off before hand and missed the wall entirely.

I never once talked to my son about porn...or spankin' it. None of my business. And I'm not a hypocrite.

I think porn is hard to define. Go into a world renowned museum full of priceless art and you will discover that it is full of sculptures and painting of naked ladies.

Open up a "dirty" magazine that came wrapped in brown paper, and you will discover that it is full of photographs of naked ladies.

So I guess photographs are bad and shocking and evil, but sculptures and paintings by the great artists of history are to be celebrated and admired?

I don't get it.

I have done a bit of reading in an attempt to discover how porn is harmful. The most persuasive point I found is that some of the models are under-aged, exploited, or practically enslaved.

As for the consumers of porn, I could not find much:

(1) Viewing porn can cause unrealistic expectations about the pleasures of sex and may therefore cause problems in relationships.

(2) Some porn addicts become desensitized to the point that they become a bit impotent. Their partner in real life does not arouse them or turn them on anymore.

(3) Couples may end up fighting about whether or not viewing porn is moral, and this can cause problems in the relationship.

So basically I came up empty-handed in this second section. The thought of models being exploited is very disturbing, and this should be fought against, but I haven't found any sound reasons why viewing legal non-exploitive porn is as terrible as religious folks claim it is.

Yeah, Porn is the culprit in unrealistic expectations about the pleasures of sex, causing their partner to not arouse them anymore and fighting ABOUT porn.

Seriously, if you want to replace your partner with porn I get that is could cause your relationships to suffer. But is this really the problem a lot when porn is involved? Methinks not.

Some ideas / responses to the list presented in the post above.

(1) Viewing porn can cause unrealistic expectations about the pleasures of sex and may therefore cause problems in relationships.

It is easy to spot the unrealistic parts of porn. There have always been problems in relationships (since the beginning of time).

Porn could also show some new ideas about sex and open up an introvert or encourage self expression in a shy and bashful person. It also could legitimize a lot of ideas about sex and show it as enjoyable rather than "nasty" or "taboo" like the religious culture does.

(2) Some porn addicts become desensitized to the point that they become a bit impotent. Their partner in real life does not arouse them or turn them on anymore.

Many people experience periods in their life where their partner is not arousing to them anymore....that's normal. For some individuals porn may become desensitized but for others it may create an interest and stoke the fire in a good way that encourages an interest in sex and gets fulfilled with their partner.

It is not going to be the same effect on everyone. Even if you are "addicted". But that term is debatable.

(3) Couples may end up fighting about whether or not viewing porn is moral, and this can cause problems in the relationship.

This is true. People in relationships fight and negotiate constantly and use posturing and pressure to set standards that they both can be comfortable with. If they don't agree on porn it is probably because they are not interested in the same variety or intensity or style of sex. Surprise.
No two people are the same and they are bound to have differing interests.

I read in a book on sex that it is never a good idea for a woman to say that they will do anything that a man wants because they will soon be surprised that the male species will want much different and more intense things than what she may prefer. Just take a look at gay porn and see if you can see a difference than the "for females porn". We are all different. My point is that porn may just be a point of discussion that triggers a conversation about what is "moral" and reveals the difference that is already there in a couple...but it is not necessarily the reason that the couple has identified themselves as wanting something different than their partner.

There are hundreds of categories of porn and thousands of variations in each of the categories to choose from because humans are so very very different individuals in their preferences for type of erotica.

(disclaimer: I am aware that the gender roles could be reversed and a woman could be female dominatrix with a man that is passive but I just used the reverse for my idea above.)
