The Oscars are suffering because movies have lost so much momentum to TV. The best stories are being told on the flat screen in your living room. I haven't been to a movie theatre in 2 years. Even in the Indy Film Festival now includes TV series.
Did you seriously state that choosing a talented actor like NPH is pandering to the gay community? Choosing a gay host is not pandering to anyone. NPH is widely accepted as a great talent.
Are you really that much of a bigot? Is choosing Whoopi Goldberg pandering to blacks or women, or just black women?
According to people like you, choosing anyone other than a rich, white male is pandering to minorities. Guess what? Straight white men are minorities, too.
He was tacky beyond tacky. I agree with "deco". He should have been yanked off the stage with a hook around his neck. You don't need to be a Mormon to have been disgusted. SOOOO classless.
First it was the cover of Rolling Stone magazine - where he was nude except for a hat covering his junk. And now tonight, with the whole world watching, he strips down to his underwear. AS THOUGH THE SCRAWNY WUSS IS ANYTHING TO LOOK AT!
I had a friend post something about it. My tv in my room was turned off at that point. I asked her what channel it was on so I could turn it on! Down one friend. Darn.
I hope I don't sound racist but if they'd stop committing most of the crimes there would not be so many in jail. Same with the attitude issues that get them shot.
I thought he did a pretty good job. The opening number was great! The skit where he was in his underwear had a purpose, it was a clever spoof on a scene from the movie 'Birdman'. Neil Patrick Harris does love magic tricks so did a little of that on the show as well.
The winner for the best adapter screenplay (Imitation Game) moved me to tears. Spoke about being suicidal at age 16 because he felt weird, different, and didn't fit in. Yet here he is, a winner. A great speech for young people, or anyone.
I also enjoyed that show, and that speech from the writer for The Imitation Game had me in tears, as did the song "Glory" from Selma. I was especially impressed with Lady Gaga's performance as she showed she can really sing.
she is not a patch on julie andrews when she sang climb every mountain, gaga didn't sing the entire last line in one breath like a good, competent singer can.
Graham Moore. Yes, his acceptance speech was the best of the night. For those who don't know, "The Imitation Game" was about a gay man, Alan Turing, who helped solved the Enigma Code during WWII.
He was later persecuted for being gay, and died of what was ruled suicide (although there is some thought that it may not have been)
Neil did the worst job ever. His 'whitest' oscar's ever joke was terrible, telling Octavia Spencer "no snacks" was just plain offensive…I could go on. Got a feeling he won't be getting invited back next year. Whoever wrote his jokes really set him up lol.
The underwear, and his whole entrance for that segment, was in reference to the movies "Birdman" and "Whiplash". They were pretty clever, and at least he looks ok in chuds. I thought he was an ok host...but I sure miss Billy Crystal.
