I've had enough distance from TSCC now that once in a while the absolute absurdity of their beliefs slaps me like a salmon across the face.

My wife mentions to me that she'll be taking the Young Women later this week to do baptisms for the dead.

"I really don't want to argue", I said, "but will you just think about what you just said?"

"You are taking teenagers to go perform rituals for dead people, because you believe they can't progress in the afterlife until you do so".

long pause...

"Yeah, I guess I am".

"Okay then."

You can't argue with crazy.

Think of all the good the church could do instead. They should be helping the living instead. They have all of these eager young people who should be at a shelter or an elderly persons home anywhere but doing imaginary rites for dead people.

Why bother if the Mormons are going to save all those lost souls anyway, and be declared as Saviours on Mount Zion?

Why bother if people like Hitler are going to go to heaven anyway just because the mormons did his work for him?

Why bother when the future mormons will teach that this awful day was only to show the perfect example of obedience to the Father (which they will interpret as Priesthood leader)?

Hind-sight is an awful thing. Thankfully, He did it with love in his heart.

Hundreds of cultures have traditions and rituals for the deceased, some very exacting. Usually, it's around the funeral time. But human beings have long been attached to their deceased. Some dig up the bones and have more rituals.
Religious rituals for deceased is an ancient time honored tradition.

Most mormons are like walking dead anyhow...only makes sense they relate to dead people.

of Jesus Christ and with the power of the Holy Priest of God do baptize you for and on the behalf of all people who have died and who yet will die, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost Amen.

There now they can stop all those baptism for the dead. I have it covered.

Is there any less magic involved in one-at-a-time dead dunking than there would be in quantity? I mean God is omnipotent, right?

This is pure genius, man--if you were a GA you could reform the whole system!

the bible says the dead are concious of nothing until the resurrection..

The dead who rise not unless baptised means those dead
in relegion, need the real jesus to be saved.

Tho my understanding that the bible also says a true
church is not without true prophet and appostles.

maybe salvation is just in the bible alone and taught
us to not worry about the dead.

But exaltation that the bible hardly mentions is another matter that we have to go on feeling rather than conviciton of the bible word. Dangerous and risky but if true then
then it makes the bible look stupid and for all good
honest misled christians that only end up DEAD without
a soul, when very much no one knows for sure we may
have a spirit and the occult world can be for good or evil but if the dead know nothing then mormonism has to be a LIE..

Fisher (I hope you don't mind me asking) how did you manage to get enough distance from the Church whilst your wife is still TBM?

The things that really gets me is genealogy: if dead people are waiting to be baptized, why are you wasting your time finding YOUR ancestors? Wouldn't random names pulled off a census be just as likely to have accepted the gospel in the spirit world? But because OUR ancestors are way more important than those other people, we spend billions of hours doing their genealogy. It doesn't make any sense.

It's all about reinforcing the basic premise: mormonism is the _only_ true universal church, applicable to all men living and dead.

"My religion is so necessary for salvation that even dead people need it."

{repeat three times in your best, smug voice}
