Unfortunately, I was really not in company or a position to where I could say anything...BUT, I overheard a discussion amongst some obvious TBMs on how bad and deceived Warren Jeffs is because of all the polygamy, marrying young teenage girls, God would not have someone do that kind of stuff, etc.

These folks were saying that Warren Jeffs would be excommunicated immediately in the LDS church for that kind of behavior.

Why do TBMs give Brother Joseph a pass on all his flings and hanky panky but not Warren Jeffs??

Joseph Smith was the original Warren Jeffs!

Because they don't believe Smith did any of it.

Because they "sustained" the current prophet, and by extension Joseph Smith.

They never "sustained" Warren Jeffs, so his authority is bogus.

A lot of TBMs know nothing of Joes dirty little secrets. The church has done it's best to keep it hush hush. There are a lot of members who have been obedient, and NOT looked at anything but church lesson manuals for info.

Because they are members of the LDS church. Jeffs is a member of the FLDS church. To hear TBMs talk, the two have nothing in common.

Because Joseph Smith's dirty deeds took place in the distant past, which can be revised, hidden, ignored, or otherwise swept under a rug. Jeffs' scandal is happening in the present, in the news, for all the world to see. Plus, Jeffs already separated himself from the mainstream church, so it's easy to label him as "other". He actually makes it easier for current Mormons to separate themselves from their shady past by pointing out that Jeffs is not one of them.

He did his dirty deeds openly in a town he ran. The Mormons looked the other way to avoid embarrassment. It's Texas that decided to go after him.

But who takes credit? Mormons.

Brainwashing over a lifetime and deifying Joseph for generations as sitting at the right hand of God, and suppression of the authentic history that Joseph was a scoundrel and outlaw like Warren Jeffs. Jeffs is the reincarnation of Joe. Why LDS don't see them in the same light is indicative of how blinded they are by heretical teachings.

Because back in Joseph Smith's day, marrying and having sex with young teenagers was 'normal' behaviour for a 37 year old man.

Gotta obey that angel with a drawn sword or lose some valuable part of his anatomy.
