"....It is demeaning to lock same-sex couples out of a central institution of the Nation’s society, for they too may aspire to the transcendent purposes of marriage. The limitation of marriage to opposite-sex couples may long have seemed natural and just, but its inconsistency with the central meaning of the fundamental right to marry is now manifest. "

Woo Hooooo!

It's a brand new day folks.

Welcome to the club!

We've had it in Canada for almost 10 years.

It has not affected my marriage in any way.

It doesn't seem to have damaged any religious organizations in any way that I've seen.

This is a very good day.

Consider sharing stories about the reactions of conservatives. I'd be insterested in hearing how long they keep talking about how the end of days are coming. Assuming that's what happened in canada when it was legalized.

Yeah it was terrible here. Hysteria, human sacrifice... dogs and cats living together.

methinks this case has a solid background:

-Right of association

-Equal Protection of laws.

HOORAY for the court & for people who 'kick against the pricks'

Loving vs. Virginia was the start, this was pretty much a winner from years ago.

Will legally married gay couples be allowed to have sex at BYU?

What a case that will make when two students at the Y go to Vegas, get married and return to Provo to begin life together and then get kicked out for breaking a mormon rule!

The white hot light of inquiry will go a long way towards disinfecting the church.

This is a big win for every American regardless of their ideology on the subject. We are all, always, better off with more fairness and equality.

And this makes me so happy I can hardly stand it!

My eyes are brimming with tears and my heart is filled with joy this morning. To the members of my family who fought against marriage equality, "My son now has the same rights under the law as your children!" Thank you to everyone who supported and fought for this victory.

Glenn Greenwald on Twitter:

Striking down campaign finance law that Congress & people support: vital. Striking discriminatory marriage laws: "judicial putsch." #Scalia

From twitter Emma Smith (parody) "And the people who are toddlers now will have no idea the church was anti gay."

So the words of Packer, Oaks, etc... will soon be buried and part of the "We never taught that!"

Human rights.

Finally! I never understood why people were so indignant, shocked and appalled... Really? A significant part of our population, who paid taxes... we're denied equal protection under the law.

I had a friend who taught science in Utah. She fought the adoption law in Utah. She and her partner finally moved to San Diego and had two kids.

What a great day!!!!!

Congratulations to my fellow citizens who well deserve this ruling for justice.

It has been an embarrassment and heartache to see the treatment of gay citizens. I'm glad to say it happened in my lifetime and that I got to see this historic sea change of laws and thought.

BTW Dude, Chinamen, I mean SSM, is not the preferred nomenclature.

It's just marriage. Or Marriage equality if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

:-P

Here's a really lovely article about an elderly gay couple who were the first to be married in Dallas. They have been together for 55 years!

http://www.fox4news.com/story/29416524/same-sex-couples-line-up-for-marriage-licenses-in-dallas-county

In related news, two gay couples were turned down for a marriage license application in Denton.
