The kind comments are all very much appreciated. I take more from this forum than I give...and honestly think it's our collective wisdom, no matter how varied and contentious it might sometimes be, that is what makes this place such a treasure.
If You Could Hie to Kolob was my granddad's favorite hymn. He had it sung at his funeral.
A good choice for a username!
(My granddad was also a singer/songwriter and musician. He loved music. That song stirred his fertile imagination, and deepest yearnings.)
I've wondered often how my grandparents might've fared had they lived through the advent of the Internet, and all the information we have available to us today? Many of my Mormon cousins have left the "fold," like I have. I believe our Mormon ancestors would have also had they been given the same opportunities we've been given, and knowledge. They were deep thinkers and deeply spiritual people, so they'd have found some alternative to Mormonism.
Our ancestors gave up everything to follow some very bizarre beliefs. I'd like to think this meant they were very open minded and had they access to the real facts they would have left too.
Give my regards to Kolob, Remember me to Temple Square. Tell all the gang in their silly baker hats, That I will not be there. Whisper of how I'm happy, To be out of that cult of thine. Give my regards to Ko-oo-lob, My heart and mind are once again miiiine.
