Do the flashbacks ever go away?

I've been completely out of the church since 2010, going on over 5 years. Stopped going to the temple in 2007. I met someone at work last week. Nice enough guy. I don't even know if he is Mormon. All he said to trigger a flashback was...

"I am John."

Those who have been to the temple will know what I mean.

It was all I could do to keep from giving him the first token of the Aaronic priesthood.

They diminish for most of us, but (at least for me) never really go away.
That stuff was burned into your brain with well-developed indoctrination/brainwashing techniques. It'll resurface with certain triggers. Perhaps for as long as you live.

Mormonism -- the damaging gift that keeps on giving. :(
