In Moroni's promise, it does not say to ask if these things are true. It says to ask if it's *not* true. It seems a little backwards to have it phrased that way. Have any of you had conversations with TBMs about this "not true" phrase?

Yeah, the TBM friend that I mentioned it to was not amused.

I said, "I mean think about it."

"Heavenly Father, are these things not true?"

"Yes, these things are not true."

"Heavenly Father, are these things not true?"

"No, these things are not true."

"So no matter what answer you get, it's still not true. Isn't that funny?"

She said, "I don't think that's funny at all." LOL

No sense of humour.

I always thought it should have been written as "Ask if these things are not SO"

They'll tell you it's part of the rich Semitic complexity that makes up the BoM.

They won't tell you why a history book author feels the need to ask the reader to pray about the book being true or not.
