On another site a poster mentioned how new MTC inhabitants seem to be more prone to freaking out and having to be sent home. Could losing your connection to the WWW be so debilitating that you couldn't function?

What would it take to get you to "volunteer" to walk around with no connection to the Internet? How big a factor may this become for the kids?

I think it's huge. By a certain age, *most* kids have cell phones. And that's at the elementary school level. Kids are very comfortable with technology and constantly use technology. Asking kids to have very limited communication with their family, friends, and the world at large is ridiculous.

They could let those at the MTC keep their cell phones. But make them give up their SIM card. Then through controlling the wifi connections, they could filter the hell out of what they can see and do with their phones (a safe compromise). Church website... yes, porn or connections to family... no. You go somewhere questionable "... Elder, we would like to talk to you about this website you visited earlier today". Creepy, yes. But then again the whole experience is creepy already.

Then when you leave the MTC, they could issue you a cell phone. It would be configured so that the wifi doesn't work, and your only access to the internet is through a VPN connection through church-owned servers. All calls would be logged and monitored. "So Elder, I see that you called your parents last week. Is there an emergency at home that we should know about"? They could give you ten minutes per month, and more minutes after that for each baptism.

Oh Hah!
Earning phone minutes for baptisms would be a huge incentive!

With that kind of motivation all of the mentally handicapped, crazies, and iimpressionable children/teens with lax parents will quickly get dunked.

Thus proving the church is TEHWOOOO!

It's never been true that 'it's the hours you put in' but rather 'how you put in the hours.' Give them the proper incentives and the kids will perform miracles.
