Just thought I'd get some input on your thoughts of hell.

Do you believe in hell?
If so, do you believe it is a defined place, or a state of being?
If there is a hell, do you think you'll be going there?
Is it a place of tortuous punishment, negliable suffering drawn out over a long period of time, or even very tolerable/enjoyable?
Is hell enternal or temporary?
Or any other question possibilities you want.

For fun, we can describe our ideal version of hell, too!

"The Invention of Satan" by Elaine Pagels. An excellent read.

I like Joseph Smith's version. I think can apply to all of us here too:

"And if we go to hell, we will turn the devils out of doors and make a heaven of it. Where this people are, there is good society" (History of the Church, 5:516–17, July 23, 1843, Nauvoo, Illinois)

It's a real place. I was there recently, watching a BYU basketball game on tv with my TBM family. If I hear the name "Jimmer" one more time I'm going to lose it!

Don't quote from a work of fiction to support a fantasy concept.

No, I don't believe in hell. I think it's a state of mind and exists in this lifetime. If there is a hell afterlife and the mormon god is in charge then yes, I'll be going to hell. I write this as I'm sipping my morning cup of coffee, I often lust after cute guys that ain't my husband, and I just tore the tag off a throw pillow.

What's hell like? I dunno. Mormons don't believe in hell fire, so it's probably not physically uncomfortable. The wailing and gnashing of teeth I always heard about in Sunday School was caused by not being in god's presence from what I remember. So maybe the spirits are lonely. Which I don't understand cuz there will be a whole bunch of the rest of us there for company, so it seems it will be just like we're on earth but no bodies. Plus if we get bored we can come haunt people here on earth for fun. That and getting to wear red panties has to be infinitely more entertaining than wearing all white with garmies underneath and singing the same boring hymns all damn day. So I really don't see the problem.

I don't believe in hell as the bible portrays it. I don't believe in any eternal punishment. I believe "hell" to be a state of ignorance that causes feelings of despair, due to regret, self-centerness, unfulfilled expectations, etc.

Hell is a state of "mind", which can be overcome by living in the present moment and not holding onto baggage.

I feel we experience states of "hell" and "heaven" every day, and the goal is to work towards decreasing our time spent in "hell" by increasing empathy, awareness and acceptance.

No. I don't believe in an afterlife, so having a belief in Hell or Heaven would make no sense to me.

Heaven is just another church job.

It's a city in Michigan.

Yeah. I've been there, took pictures. We missed hell day (6-6-06) by 3 days. Bummer.

I occasionally go through hell, like this week trying to recover from the loss of my beloved cat.

But I don't believe in it as a place at all.

A physical place of fire and brimstone and nude, horned red guys poking us with pitchforks? Why not! Sounds perfectly plausible to me.

The concept of criminals experiencing for themselves whatever pain they deliberately inflicted on others seems plausible to me.

I'm currently reading the book about the Hillside Stranglers and I do hope there is a balancing procedure in the Hereafter for criminals and their victims.

It seems so unfair that 12 and 14 year old girls should be subjected to being raped and tortured to death.
