Background:

"Recognized nationwide among beer enthusiasts, National Beer Day is an unofficial holiday in the United States celebrated every year on April 7, and marking the day in 1933, the first day in 13 years, that people could legally buy, sell, and drink beer.

National Beer Day is a celebration of the Cullen–Harrison Act being signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 22, 1933. Upon signing the legislation, Roosevelt made his famous remark, "I think this would be a good time for a beer."

The law went into effect on April 7 of that year, allowing people to buy, sell and drink beer containing up to 3.2% alcohol by weight (or 4.05% by volume) in states that had enacted their own law allowing such sales. People across the country responded by gathering outside breweries, some beginning the night before. On that first day, 1.5 million barrels of beer were consumed, inspiring the future holiday.

Today, April 7 is recognized as National Beer Day and April 6 is known as New Beer's Eve."

Now go out there and be safe, celebrants!

Believe it or not, we've got a couple of local craft brews in the keg in my office's "lounge." Cold and ready to go.
I know what I'm doing this afternoon...;)

I'll be drinking cold ones while I stack firewood. I have 3+ cords in a pile in my driveway, made a dent last night after work, but lots more to go!

Lager or ale? Light or dark? Hoppy or malty? High alcohol, or lower?

I'm not a fan of stouts or Guinness. Other than that, try me. I DO like ales, so that would be hops? And it has to be obtainable in Utah. LOL

In Utah, a lot of the selections from Uintah would be good bets.

In beer parlance, hoppy = bitter, malty = sweeter (but balanced).

What's your specific objection to stouts? I find that with many people, it's the burnt, acrid nature of Guinness and others of the Irish style of stout. Many other dark beers don't have that character and are much more drinkable.

For instance, Wasatch Polygamy Porter is on the maltier side, without the burnt character, and a nice baking chocolate kind of flavor.

If you really like the hoppy beers, try getting something from Stone. I especially like their Ruination Double IPA. It's strength is such that you might have to go to a state store for it, though.

I also like anything from Boulevard, which should also be available where you are.

I definitely like both malt and hop, depends on my mood!

I guess it's been so long since I've tried stouts/Guinness, I couldn't give you an exact description of what I don't like. But I always called them coffee grounds beer, the kind you have to chew to get down. lol!

Thank you for all the suggestions! I now have a month's worth of yumminess to try.

are barrel-aged stouts. Usually bourbon barrel. It tends to thin out the body of the beer, and impart a little fire from the bourbon barrels, plus a touch of vanilla. Not everyone likes them, but if you're one of those who does, they can be fantastic.

My recommendation would be for western Canadian beers of which there is an ever growing selection. The other day I had a pint of ale from Troubled Monk Brewery (don't ya love the name) in Red Deer. It was good.

I might celebrate with a Delerium Tremens - yum. It's a delicious Belgian Wit. Or, should you have an American beer since it's an American holiday? If so, I'll have a Firestone Walker Opal. Too many choices!!!!
