A lot of guys in the mission fields of Olde had tons of cassette tapes on various mormon themes and subject.

A favorite seemed to be Don J. Black, who wrote some books too. He had one called "Hand to Hand Combat with Satan."

Check it out on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Hand-Combat-Satan-Don-Black/dp/1555030718/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420581002&sr=8-1&keywords=Hand+to+Hand+Combat+with+Satan

In all honestly, these tapes and books from unofficial sources "helped" us quite a bit as missionaries, as we had no real training or access to anybody "official" who could provide us any help in answering questions beyond the very basic and simple.

I remember hearing his tapes.
My opinion was he was so dramatic and emotional that he sounded phony to me.
My future BIL loved him though.

I remember his tape! Something about how he wandered around in psycholeliccally coloured bathrooms looking for mormon kids in the drug scene.

And that one girl called him up and told him she was out of state, having given birth to a baby, whom she put up for adoption.

I used to listen to mormon tapes while i did housework, or sewing. Along with other tapes, not mormon-oriented too.

I loved what he had to say! Especially regarding speaking with the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave examples of what happened when he did not speak with the Spirit and examples of when he did. The differences were profoundly different.I appreciate his influence in my life. (The Holy Spirit)

Don J. Black was a contemporary of my Grandmother; she gave me one of his signed books. Although I don't recall it's title just now, I do remember how I enjoyed reading it.

How fortunate you are Still Lurking. Sounds like your Grandmother was a great person!

As an old-time exmo I was before the rise of the "faith-
promoting tapes" industry. But I was able to have Paul H. Dunn
sit about ten feet away from me and tell me (and the rest of the
R.O.T.C. class) about the soldier who died in his arms.
