Really well done. This is a chapter in history that needs a lot more exposure. It explains so much. Anyone who stuck with Joe through all that was totally committed and invested in his lies.
"Of those who remained in the church, Christopher Cary said: 'It was marvelous to see with what tenacity they held to their faith in the prophet, when they knew they had been robbed, abused and insulted."
I loved hearing the story of the Kirtland Anti-Banking Society! Just another verification that Joe Smith was a con-ster. I'd love to have one of the society's Three-dollar bills. Probably beyond my means, though.

I am glad to see this chapter of Mo history get more light shed on it. I remember reading about it in "No Man Knows My History" and just being appalled. It wasn't a bank, it was simply a ponzi scheme or maybe just plain old fleecing!
What motivates a conman? Sex (polygamy) and money (Kirtland banking scheme). JS was simply a garden-variety conman and nothing more.
Thanks for forwarding this site. It was Marvelously Marvelous.
I stand all amazed at the Gall of this conniver called Joseph Summed up surely in his Anti-banking establishment
He begged, borrowed, and fleeced Shouting, "Me, I talked to God!" Not caring who he robbed Of joy, of health, of wealth.
Oh, I stand all amazed at his Greed, cruelty, and bamboozeling A song all can sing is that Conning and magic were his thing So he could forward move With ladies and girls real smooth Boasting of talking with God And holding to that straight Iron Rod
His top hat and his talking rock Were the treasures that he sought And about all that remained When he gasped his last remaining Breath of air, somewhere.
